O’Connor as a CJ Recess Appointment?

I read a suggestion that Sandra Day O’Connor stay on at the Supreme Court temporarily until a replacement can be found for the late Chief Justice Rehnquist.  President Bush ought to make a recess appointment to put her in the center chair until a successor to Rehnquist can be confirmed.  Of course, that might embolden the liberals to stonewall anyone Bush does nominate for the permanent post.
