Evangelism: Favorite 2006 Posts

Here’s a recap of some of my favorite postings from 2005  2006  in this category:

Effort, or Results?  What Exactly is Our Job as Evangelists?  [link]  The Great Commission is pretty clear about how Jesus would have answered this question.

Failing the Great Commission  [link].  Here are seven pieces of bad news for evangelists who think all the church’s problems would be solved if we would just preach the Faith Once Delivered.

Evangelicals Fear the Loss of Their Teenagers  [link].  It should be no surprise that evangelicals in the U.S. are worried that their teenagers are abandoning their faith.

Christianity’s Elephant in the Room [link].   Attendance data suggest that an increasing number of people are skeptical of the doctrinal claims that traditionalist Christians insist on making.  Over the centuries, the good news Jesus actually did preach has become covered with dogmatic mold.  That mold needs to be stripped away, so nonbelievers and doubters can be attracted again by the basics Jesus taught.

Evangelism: Clear Soup First, Steak Dinner Later  [link]   Traditionalists preaching orthodox doctrines to nonbelievers and doubters ("NBDs") are forgetting the principle of first things first.  For many NBDs, the first thing is to convince them that yes, there is indeed such a thing as a Creator.

There’s No Need for Competing Gospels [link].  Instead of narcissistically fighting each other, traditionalists and reexaminers should refocus on their mission and work together to preach a core ‘starter gospel’ to nonbelievers and doubters.
