Leon Wieseltier, literary editor of The New Republic, levies his guns at intelligent design in a back-page editorial, Creations, in The New Republic, Aug. 22 & 29, 2005, p. 38. It’s a companion piece to a much longer article, The Faith That Dare Not Speak Its Name, by Jerry Coyne, in the same issue.
In his editorial, Wieseltier says, "Truth is never heresy, except for those who make their religion vulnerable to truth." Apropos of teaching intelligent design in school science classes, he continues, "I do not want my son to waste his time on phlogiston."
Indeed.
