A recent TitusOneNine comment, which referred to a wooden cross in a chapel, brought to mind a wooden cross I saw at St. Dunstan’s church in Canterbury, a few blocks from the cathedral. For some reason its crudeness made it a moving sight, much more evocative of the actual Cross than the finely-worked, gilded, and sometimes-bejeweled crosses we usually see:
