Anglican Communion: Favorite 2006 Posts

Here’s a recap of some of my favorite postings from 2005  2006 in this category:

Communion as a Cousin Relationship [link].  Some argue that to be ‘in communion’ is like being married.  I say it’s like being cousins.

Communion: Whom would we (dare) exclude from the table?  [link]  If someone disreputable asked if he could attend to a dinner party for Jesus, but the host said ‘no, you can’t,’ what would Jesus have to say about that?

Homosexuality: The Cultural War Is Pretty Much Over  [link].  The anti-gay worldview is being inexorably displaced, thanks to Hollywood.

Catholicity isn’t all it’s cracked up to be  [link].    Variation is life. In living organisms, a “catholic” gene pool can be vulnerable to environmental changes such as the introduction of a disease pathogen.  We can wonder whether social organizations — even the Body of Christ — might have the same vulnerability.

What is the Proper Role of Bishops?  [link]; see also Form, Function, and the Authority of Bishops [link].

Micro-credit pioneer wins Nobel Peace Prize — and puts Episcopalian- and Anglican combatants to shame  [link].  And he’s apparently a Muslim, no less.

Communion Without Baptism: Rereading 1 Cor. 11 [link]  The traditionalist argument that Holy Communion must be reserved exclusively for baptized Christians isn’t supported by Scripture.

We Need a Truce at the Communion Rail [link].  If the Germans and British could do it at Christmas in 1914, the belligerents in the current church wars have no excuse for not doing so themselves.
