Six billion-plus glasses. Some people see their own glasses as half-empty, others as half-full. There’s no question that some glasses really are pretty full, while others are so empty it’s a disgrace to the rest of us.
But we risk losing hope if we focus just on the half-empty glasses. Another crucial question: What’s the overall trend? On average, has the water level in our six billion glasses been rising, or falling?
It’s beyond dispute that we still have a ton of work to do to get everyone’s glass up to a reasonably-acceptable level. But we can take some small satisfaction that overall, the water level has been rising, and it should continue to do so if we keep at it (assuming we don’t manage to screw things up).
