Yet another commenters’ debate about homosexuality, at the TitusOneNine blog, illustrates how some traditionalists are invincibly certain that God
is offended by homosexual activity per se. I can
imagine God upbraiding those folks out of the whirlwind — much as he reputedly did
in Job 38 — asking them, in effect: Who the [expletive] are you to be
issuing grand pronouncements about what does or does not displease me?
UPDATE: One commenter tried reversing the logic, asking how "revisionists" can be so certain that God is not displeased by homosexual activity, especially given that he allegedly said so in the Law and in Paul’s epistles. My response was:
- Many modernists simply don’t know whether God is or is not offended by
homosexual activity per se. The fact that the Bible says so doesn’t make it so. We’re simply not privileged to know God’s thoughts in
the matter, at least not with any degree of confidence. - It hasn’t been shown that homosexual activity
between consenting adults is otherwise harmful (apart from the choler it seems to inflict
on some of my fellow straights). - Consequently, modernists don’t
think we have a warrant to impose our personal sexual preferences on gays and
lesbians by telling them they’re not supposed to be expressing their love
sexually.
